Malleable - Michael Clerico

Quasars

and nebulae

flaming orange

and royal purple

they watch me

from a black expanse

Only me

One little piece of infinity

I quiver in the light of the stars

I suffocate

I scream

I soar through clouds

of cosmic rubble

Flailing

a comet coveting an end

until they

ensnare me

caught in a constellation

I see eight legs crawl out of the void

Their universe

is not mine to have

a wall of a thousand all-seeing eyes

Insatiable and unending

Inevitable and all-consuming

They drain the universe of all colors

every stray thought is theirs to take

I am left to await the gallow

I am dragged into starlight

my skin scorches

cleansed

of all autonomy

I concede

Baptized in a sea of vomit

Baptized in ichor

Baptized in the venom

that quells my voice

that blinds the senses

that drags my mind from my body

I am left to rot in the void

left as but a toy in the den of the beast
